The Community Development Division performs plan reviews, permitting, construction inspections, and occupancy inspections of new and renovated buildings in the Village. It also enforces the adopted property maintenance codes for existing buildings and provides zoning reviews. Additionally, the Division acts as liaison to the Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals, and prepares updates for building and related regulations as needed.
A building permit is required for construction of a new building or additions of an existing structure that increases its size, creates structural changes or involves plumbing or electrical work.
Contact Community Development if you are planning any work on or around your property to avoid any penalties and/or fines for work completed without a permit. Most building projects require a permit to ensure that the work performed adheres to the Village and International Codes.
