There are many activities in the area that are just for senior citizens that you may take advantage of.  Below you'll find a listing of valuable resources of information from the county, state and federal government that's just for seniors.

School District 300 offers residents age 65 and over a Gold Card which entitles them to free admission to any D300 musical, dramastic or other presentation. Call 847-551-8344 and provide your name & address and you will be mailed your Gold Card.

The Park District's Senior Center offers a wide variety of classes, special events, trips, tours, fitness programs, card playing groups, bowling, quilting and knitting classes and a variety of social clubs for your enjoyment.

Dundee Township Public Library - http://www.dundeelibrary.info/
offers book discussion groups, free movies including popcorn!, basic computer classes including email.  For those who are ill or disabled, the library will deliver books on tape or CD and large print books directly to your home.

Illinois Benefits Oganization  http://www.state.il.us/aging/illinoisbenefits/index.html a resource for presciption drug assistance & information on Circuit Breakers program.

Illinois Department on Aging www.state.il.us/aging  Contains information on: Legal services for older adults, Family Care Giver support, Long-term care information, Nursing Facility Associations, Adult Day Service Centers.

Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging -  is committed to helping older persons live with dignity, safety and independence in their own homes and optimize the quality of life. Citizens of 55 or over have a lifetime of experience to share and the desire to make a real difference in the world.  Senior corps will connect you with people and organizations that need you the most.  There's an opportunity to become mentors, coaches or a companion to people in need or contribute skills and expertise to community projects & organizations.  Visit their website to make a difference.

For those who have reached 65, you can ride free on the RTA and Metra with an ID card.
The ID cards are available at 3 area locations:  In Elgin at PACE (847-931-6750) in Huntley at the Grafton Township office (847-669-3328) or at the village hall in Carpentersville (847-551-3476). For more information, click the website above or call these specific locations.

Senior Services Association - http://www.seniorservicesassoc.org/ is a non-profit agency dedicated to sustaining and improving the quality of life for mature adults by providing access to the social services they need.  See the Kane County Senior Events Calendar and "Senior Activities" for a list of clubs and activities.

A non-profit organiztion for people 50 and over dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age.  AARP offers a wide range of unique benefits such as advocacy info regarding medicare, social security and consumer safety issues.

Application for Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption - http://www.co.kane.il.us/soa/SeniorExempt.htm
The Kane County Assessor will allow qualified taxpayers an exemption that will remove up to $4,000 from the equalized value of your home. To be eligible, you must be 65 years of age by December 31 of the assessment year.  The property must be occupied as the primary residence by the eligible taxpayer.  The eligible taxpayer must be liable for paying the real estate taxes on the property.  The eligible taxpayer must be owner of record of the property or have a legal or equitable interest in the property as evidenced by a written instrument.
